Requirements:

  • No classes required

  • No testing

  • No special training required

Qualifications:

  • To become qualified to become a Notary Public in the State of Texas you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older

  • Legal resident of the State of Texas (No length of time required to qualify residency.)

  • No criminal convictions. Although a criminal conviction is not an immediate denial to become a notary.

  • Submit the proper state application, complete with the $21 State appointment fee.

  • Obtain a surety bond in the amount of $10,000 from an insurance agent in the State of Texas. As of this writing the bond has a cost of $50.00 for the (4) four year period.

Cost to obtain: $55 for required notary bond, $21 State fee = $76

  • State mandatory 4-year $10,000 bond - Currently $55.00

  • $21 Secretary of State filing fee
